Specifically, the Tesla Model S P85D. In ominous grey paint and threatening grey wheels. With seamless 515 kW (691 hp) and 931 N-m (687 lb-ft) at telepathic-ankle summons, making it possible to stretch the corners of my grin well past my ears.

The Charger Hellcat is more powerful and faster?
Don't care.

The M3 would be more nimble?
Don't care.

There are possible quibbles about the interior?
Don't care.

The difficult thing to explain is that, while I and my car-people kin like to talk about the relative merits of various cars, the real measure is how well they can be driven. And I know, in my pit of my gut, that this kind of power suits me perfectly. Not just the magnitude - though that is ridiculously ample. But in its feel, and how it fundamentally engages me.

My buddy Colin Marthaller and I test drove the old P85+, and it was a fantastic giggle-generating thrill to pilot. Our collaborative summary was "Big Girl Can Move".

I imagine taking that, and increasing it by 50%. And spreading it out to all 4 wheels. Which is just so... right for all-year hard-driving in PDX.

Another test drive is in order.
