2012.11.06 The Future Matters
Barack Obama was elected to a second term of POTUS today. I confess to a significant sense of relief, despite having faith in Nate Silver (saying it was not going to be close anyway), and having little faith in the US government in general. Though, honestly, if it weren't for my kids, I probably wouldn't care all that much. Because, you know, misanthropy is easier to relax into with vaguely-considered "humans".
Not that I think Barack Obama can singlehandedly save the future, mind you. Oh, hell no. The future is so difficult that it's hard to imagine how we can manage to avoid smothering ruin of civilization. But I do think that handing power to a bunch of moronic racists who hate math, science, and logic is a likely way to make it harder on ourselves.
Meanwhile, keep being all cute and lovable, kids! It helps daddy with the damn-giving.
