After winding down the 17th playing AIF with Dave and watching a downloaded car show, at midnight I got confirmation from my buddy Ken Chow and proceeded to Midnight TRON. As is appropriate for December Eighteenth, I rolled out Richthofen and raced through inclement weather, avoiding several police traps by virtue of luck and timely wariness.

TRON: Legacy has been described as visually appealing but otherwise lacking. It depends on what you're looking for, I suppose. Visually stunning was completely correct, and in a way that was well-suited to being the successor to the original. The story was not overtly complicated, it's true, but I found it to be entirely appropriate for the art form in question. To use a spectacular vehicle painted with blunt contrasts for anything other than attention grabbing is silly. If you're going to listen to a guy with a large metal gong and a heavy wooden mallet and expect to hear Flight Of The Bumblebee performed, you're an idiot.

Of course, I liked the movie even more for the sublimely apposite father-and-son core of the story. So maybe I'm biased.

Richthofen and I nearly flew home through sleet and snow, my cheeks sore from grinning and damp from the occasional happy tear.

After a nap, I spent most of the rest of the day wishing I could have conversations with Simon.

Happy Birthday Dad; I've been thinking about you.
