This evening was one of those common, casual "dinner and a movie" nights that couples often do. Both S and I had had busy days, and it was a way to do something nice together that didn't require a lot of effort. So the plan was to eat at the Newport Bay Restaurant then walk to the theatre to see "Sideways".

The walk was the best part.

It's not that dinner was bad. Actually, it was really really good - Newport Bay Restaurants are surprisingly good for being such affordable establishments. Plus the dinner conversation was also deep and educational, if a little melancholy.

And it's not because the movie was bad. Sideways turned out to be quirky and entertaining, with some poignant moments mixed with painful moments.

No, the walk was the best part because of what happened during the walk. It was a little chilly, about 8°C, with a humid wind blowing chillingly. I felt a little brisk in my thin jacket, but I was OK. S, on the other hand, had her arms wrapped around herself trying to hug in some shreds of warmth, and was making sad little teeth-chattering noises. As we were briskly walking along, eager to get to the theatre, S bumps into me. It's actually a common occurence, and I jokingly bump her back with my elbow. So, she turns to me and says,

"I was trying to get some heat from body contact! I'll slit you open and slip inside like a fucking tauntaun!".

And I knew that she really is the girl for me.
