Part of winding up his winter holiday, Simon had to finish off his homework for kindergarten. I personally don't remember having to do homework for grades 1-3, much less kindergarten, but I'm old and times have changed. Anyway, it seems he was into the writing practice. Because after we read the end of his latest chapter book about a Japanese poet (Bashō), he decided that he wanted to write a poem of his own.

And so he did.

The LEGOs sparkle in the fire light.

Admittedly, his actual scrawled effort has spelling difficulties. And he changed the last word to "place", which somewhat alters the charm of the poem into something unintentionally grim (and funny). Nevertheless, it is a noble effort, and it makes me glad.
