I just finished reading The Martian by Andy Weir.

Behold as I fall to my knees and formally acknowledge him as the Nerd King. For he is, indeed, the one true ruler of all Nerd-kind. All hail the Nerd King! Long may he rule.

S complimented me by suggesting that the main character reminded her of me. But, really, the reading of the book is only complete if you imagine the main character as being Ulrich Hissen - the nerdiest person I know in real life. And I'm pretty damn nerdy, and move in some remarkably nerdy circles, so I know of which I nerdize.

Seriously though: it's fascinating, with a high degree of technical believability, heavily leavened with humour, spiked with poignancy, and bound up in compelling story-telling.

Well done, Mr. Weir. And thank-you.
