I don't know what I'm living for, I just know I want to live some more.
- Brendan Benson - What I'm Looking For

While out for a run tonight I added a sprint up a particularly daunting steep bit. As I went, I overhead a comment from a group of 20-somethings - "Hey, look at that old guy go!"

Funny how I can't get over the part where some adult-age people think I'm old. Theoretically, it should be possible to feed my ego with the bit about "look at (that guy) go!", with the understanding that I was being at least somewhat athletic in that particular moment. But that's just emotionally torpedoed by the fact that the statement mostly conjures an images of a wrinkly hunched figure with a cane or a walker doing some sort of embarrassing jig.

When I told the wife, she mocked, "You could have retorted, 'In my imaginary world, you're all dead'!" It made me feel better to be teased with an unfair insight into my petty tendencies.

Life is weird, but good.
