The last time I posted a rant was back in August, so there's a few things I should mention that have happened since then:

We're pregnant.

S and I are expecting The Peanut to be delivered on around 2009.07.02. Yeah, me as a proto-human-herder - who would have believed it? To respond to the seemingly broad demographic of sneering mockers, NO, I will not be getting rid of Richthofen. The Porsche stays. Little Peanut will just have to learn to cope with my every-so-slightly divided heart, like S has.

We're (hopefully) moving.

We've gotten, and accepted, an offer on The RoosT. The inspection was yesterday, and we're waiting to hear about any associated supplemental modifications to the deal. With a bit of luck, this will work out, and the Castle family will find a new place to live that will fit (all three! of) us. At first we plan to rent for a while, to more easily cover expenses while S is off work to care for the newly-emerged Peanut in the Summer. We mean to lie in wait, ready to pounce on a suitable NesT in Our Neighbourhood. (Our Neighbourhood being defined as a small area just to the west of Mt. Tabor in East Portland.)

I still have a job (so far).

OK, this isn't a change, exactly. However, it should be a reassurance for those that have heard how Daimler is thinning out its salaried work force in North America. I'm not completely out of the woods yet, but I am reasonably certain that my position is secure. The security is based on a combination of the ongoing relevance of my work, my reputation and performance history, and the high quality of blackmail material I have handy.

We didn't make it up to Canada for christmas.

Yeah, I know - it sucks. The plan was to make sure that mom wasn't by herself for her first christmas without dad. And the ice storm that closed highways between us and British Columbia wouldn't have stopped me from trying by myself, but with a pregnant wife it just seemed too risky. So: mom, Melissa, Bob, Aaron, Heather, Grandma and Grandpa K - I'm sorry. I'll try to make it up in the Porsche by myself when the roads clear in the Spring.

Plans for world domination are still on hold.

The giant killer robots aren't really working out, and I'm distracted with this whole wiki thing. So you're all un-dominated for a short while longer. Make the most of it.
