Have you heard about [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molten-salt_reactor_experiment Molten Salt Thorium Reactors]?  I hadn't either, because the successful experiment was shut down before I was born.  Because, really, who would want an inherently safe nuclear power-generation technology with minimal radioactive waste, using relatively plentiful fuel, and with very little potential for weaponized nuclear products?

Have you heard about Molten Salt Thorium Reactors? I hadn't either, because the successful experiment was shut down before I was born. Because, really, who would want an inherently safe nuclear power-generation technology with minimal radioactive waste, using relatively plentiful fuel, and with very little potential for weaponized nuclear products?

Sift that sarcasm for the outrage. Because it's there. But hopefully it's not just wasted outrage, but instead can be refined into useful heat to help stoke progress.

Maybe the decisions made during the Cold War can be forgiven, considering all the crazy that was suffocating the world. But it does irk me that we've choked on our desperate need for fossil fuels, and grown fearful of nuclear power that was more about breeding plutonium than gigawatts, when we could have a significant and comparatively safe alternative by now. And not just the perpetual-dreaming of fusion, nor the diffuse wishing of solar or wind.

Thank fuck for Flibe Energy. I wish you guys success.
