Another long day had left us all weary - me from work and hauling kids to-and-from daycare, the kids from a full day of being cared for by strangers bracketed by being trapped in a car, and the wife from work and being (as ever) the only one with the wherewithal to make dinner for us all. But for a moment, that didn&#039;t have to dictate who we are. Violet bounced in my arms, bright-eyed, as I bobbed and mommy shimmied and Simon rocked-out.<br /> <br /> We are generally pretty burned out. Enthusiasm is transmuted from drips of ego-strength and shreds of dignity, but all we ever seem to actually seek are a few minutes here and there to just relax. It is crazy-making to be cramming a fulfilling full-time job into the same life with raising rapidly-developing youngsters. Simon is already reading, and getting a feel for the contradictions of wanting to accomplish things on his own while simultaneously wanting things done for him. Violet&#039;s transition into a toddler has left her prone to rages as her default reaction to everything uncertain.<br /> <br /> Every day one of us wonders aloud how hard it is to keep doing this. Every day, one of us acknowledges that these are almost certainly the &quot;Golden Days&quot;. <br /> <br /> Life is good.</div>
